L' Shana Tovah

Minimal Table Setting for a Hot Day
L' Shana Tovah means Happy New Year in Hebrew. Monday at sundown began the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashonah. It's traditional to eat sweet food for the celebration to insure that you will have a sweet, successful and happy new year. Apples and honey are a favorite.

My Mom and Step-Dad came to our house last night for apples with honey, gefilte fish, baked chicken, lokshen kugel (noodle pudding) and carrots in dill sauce. I cut the carrots into coin-like pieces to represent wealth in the new year. We all need that! We had honeycake and fresh strawberries for dessert.

It was a lovely evening, even though it was so hot in Los Angeles yesterday. I dreaded having to turn on the oven.
Since we're in the midst of construction, our house is less than perfect right now. Most of the contents of our bedroom are strewn all over the living and dining rooms. We have boxes everywhere. That's why I kept my guest list to a minimum for this New Year's dinner. Mom and Hal hadn't seen any of our new addition yet. It was fun for them to be able to climb around thru the framing and sawdust to see what our new bedroom will look like.
Yes, it's going to be a good New Year. L' Shana Tovah everyone!

Happy New Year Ellen!

Could you please send some of your hot weather over here! We have the sunshine today but there's no heat in it whatsoever so I'd be very grateful for some of yours ;)

The construction work looks like it's coming along very nicely.
