Carol and Ellen, leading parallel lives for years! |
Saturday was a busy and rewarding day! I met up with my "Sister from another Mister," Carol Starr Schneider at the Hamburger Hamlet in Sherman Oaks. We had a wonderful session of playing Jewish Geography and some yummy Lobster Bisque. Carol relates our story here. Carol's a doll and an excellent writer. You should follow her blog, Short Jewish Gal. I'm betting, if those old population records in Kiev hadn't been burned in pogroms, we'd probably find out that we are actually related!
Later that afternoon, Larry and I zoomed up to the newish Taschen Art Gallery on Beverly Boulevard and Crescent Heights. This building was formerly a fish aquarium store. Later it became Design Within Reach.
The gallery looks immense without all that modern furniture inside. The current show highlights original photographs from the Taschen release, "It's Just a Shot Away: The Rolling Stones in Photographs." This book is HUGE and costs $5,000.

The photo show is fascinating, encompassing the Rolling Stones' decades-long career. There's a timeline in the rear of the gallery. I wouldn't shell out $5,000 for the book or the tens of thousands of dollars for one of these photos, but it is a fabulous show that you should see.

Dinnertime. We drove north on Fairfax and noticed that part of the Asthma Vapineze sign was lit. Larry had to stop and snap a shot.

Next stop, Zankou Chicken for a quick and delicious dinner. It had been raining. The sky was light. I love this double apartment building across the street from Zankou on Sunset, just east of Fairfax. I'm thinking that all of those fab photos at the Taschen Gallery inspired me!
