New Art Gallery

On Saturday Larry and I drove downtown to Chinatown for the opening of a new art gallery. The Gregorio Escalante Gallery is on Chung King Road near many other galleries and shops. We know Greg from his Santa Monica Gallery, Copro Gallery at Bergamot Station. Larry does freelance photography for the gallery occasionally.

This opening was filled with artwork from Greg's collection, featuring well-known artists Robert Williams, Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari, Shepard Fairey and more.  It appears that this Chinatown gallery will offer a different category of art than the Santa Monica gallery.
Greg is one of the founders of Juxtapoz Magazine. The opening was crowded with many movers and shakers in the art world.

This space has been entirely remodeled and updated. There's a mezzanine, library and a basement. It's very bright and airy. This happened to be gallery night on Chung King Road, plus a band was scheduled to perform later in the evening.

We ran into many friends, Doug Nason, former gallery partner of Greg's at the Copro-Nason Gallery, along with his fiance' Christine.

We arrived early because we had another engagement. Yes, we are wearing formal attire...rather grand for a gallery opening, but perfect for our next party. More about that event tomorrow.

Best of luck, Greg, with the new gallery space!
