Salty Snacks
For some reason, this sign at Ralph's Supermarket just cracked me up. "Salty Snacks." In this era of low-cal, low-sodium and tasteless food, I just love that Ralph's has a whole section for my faves....salty snacks!
I did a lot of grocery shopping after Thanksgiving. For some reason, I kept forgetting things at the market so I returned quite a bit over the weekend. I cruised the Salty Snack aisle, but my advanced age and high blood pressure kept me from stocking up. My favorite old-time salty snack is dip-size Fritos with a side of plain sour cream. Sigh.
I can't eat that stuff anymore, so I live vicariously through you. What's your favorite salty snack?

Hi Ellen,
Yeah...I kept returning to the market this weekend too...even though we had a ton of turkey leftover!
My favorite salty snacks are ballpark peanuts!!!

Oh, salty snacks. Love salt. Love snacks. They don't love me back, for all the reasons you already mentioned.
But if I did eat them, I'd head straight for chile and lime tortilla chips. Preferably the Trader Joe's version. Or Pirate's Booty, also from TJ's, because yes, I really am three years old at heart.
I hate that HPB and age bar us from our favorite things. waaaaaaa.....
I love salty popcorn and salty potato chips, and those snacks that are sweet and salty, because I like sweet too. Oh and frozen desserts! Yumm....
Deep confession to follow: Although I have not done this in decades, it's really scrumptious to smash potato chips and mix them up with melty vanilla ice cream. I though I was a freak for doing this until I met another woman (she was thin and athletic!) who admitted to loving this also. But her method was to eat some chips, eat a bite of ice cream, eat some chips, etc. Maybe that was the secret to staying thin?!
Christine G.
Fave salty snack is Ruffles potato chips and sour cream dip made with an envelope each of Laura Scudder's Green Onion and Toasted Onion dip mix.
One that hearkens back to my childhood would have to be the ginger ale and Mr. Salty pretzel sticks that my grandma would give me when we came to visit. I remember liking the mascot a lot, a sailor-pretzel-man: http://tinyurl.com/66fv85
Green olives and Pringles potato chips. But not together!
Popcorn!
I'm with Jillian Popcorn is my favorite too.
I love tortilla chips and salsa.
Oh the crunch and the zip of the heat. It's too good.
Cheez-its!! No contest.
We don't get them here in the UK, which is a very good thing, as I could probably eat an entire Family Size box in one sitting! I only eat them once or twice a year when I visit the US so I figure that's okay :)
I also love tortilla chips and salsa but try to avoid eating them too much for the same reasons others have listed.
Hmm, I'm with Christine G on the salty/sweet combo-I always have to trade off with popcorn and then cookies or just save some effort and eat chocolate covered pretzels so I get both tastes at once! If I had to pick one salty fav though it would be Herr's Sour Cream & Onion chips (it's a PA thing and yes I plan to eat them when I'm out there for the holidays!)
