Tujunga Field Trip

The Scott House, Tujunga, CA

On Sunday afternoon Larry took me on a mini-field trip to Tujunga. He often works for Valley Modern Residential Real Estate and takes photos for their upcoming open houses. He photographed the Pierre Koenig-designed Scott House in Tujunga last week and wanted to show it to me. Larry's photos make this house really look outstanding. Click on all of them here to see the kitchen and more architectural details.

There's a clearing near the street at the bottom of the driveway that could store cars, be a picnic area or even a mini-office or studio.

Pierre Koenig was a very famous architect and leading figure in the modernist movement in America, especially in Southern California. He built many steel and glass homes in Los Angeles and was an active architect in the Case Study Home Project, organized to bring affordable housing to the burgeoning Southern California population after World War II.

The Scott house is listed at $585,000 which is a really low price for an architecturally original Koenig-designed home. It's a bit run down, but really just needs some cosmetic fixin' and cleaning in order to make this house a nice hillside getaway. The indoor/outdoor feeling of freedom and nature that you get when you're at the Scott House is amazing.

It was a bit of a party when we got there. Many members of the Mid-Century Modern L.A. community were there for a look-see, including my Facebook friend, Steven Price! So nice to meet Steven and Jeffrey in person!
