The Incredible Knitting Machine
Tricia Shafer and her knitting machine
This past Sunday I went to A Mano Yarn Center in Mar Vista for a knitting machine demonstration by Tricia Shafer of Knitter's Edge. I met Tricia awhile back at one of our WeHo SnB meetings and subsequently at the Culver City SnB at the Synergy Cafe. Tricia's family has been in the knitting machine business for decades. She learned how to machine knit at the age of 7. Tricia is also a great hand-knitter.
Tapestry-Knit Afghan
She brought in all kinds of examples of her machine-knit work. There was a double-sided tapestry-type afghan in cream and black that was spectacular. She showed us many different sweaters that she'd created, in addition to items for the home. Tricia seems like she would be a wonderful teacher. A Mano will be offering machine knitting classes in the fall. One of these days I just might venture into the world of machine knitting. Below are a few of Tricia's beautiful knitted designs (photos taken from the internet).

Tricia's sweaters are so beautiful. They look intricate and hand-knit. I'm amazed that she made them on a knitting machine!

Wow, great sweaters! Since I tend to fall asleep while knitting, I might need to look into this machine business.
I had been waiting for your post about the demo! It certainly was amazing to watch how effortlessly she can knit something on her machine. Of course she makes hand knitting look that way as well and is always willing to help those of us that need it. She does have some great designs on her sites as well.
Thanks for sharing.

OH NO!!! You're going to the dark side, huh?! Well, can't say that I blame you - that (?)chinoiserie(?)/tapestry is absolutely phenomenal.
Thanks for sharing, and have fun tonite!
Thanks to Tricia and the machine knitting demo that day, I purchased a Silver Reed knitting machine! It's opened a whole new creative experience. Will be signing up for classes at A Mano Yarn Center when it's feasible. Glad you posted the demo.

Not sure what kind of machine Tricia is using, Meg. You might want to check out her website: http://triciashafer.com/
She is using a Silver reed LK 150. Great machine to begin with and learn on. I've got one myself!
