Saturday Swaps, Sales & BBQ
Rhoda, Country Club Estates - Mid-City LA
We got back in the car and zoomed down Arlington toward the Santa Monica Freeway West. We were headed for the Swap at John Muir Elementary School in Santa Monica. Rhoda's favorite jewelry dealer, Terri, always has a set-up there....the first Saturday of the month.
Terri's tables are filled with vintage jewelry....pins, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, etc. The array of types of jewelry, colors, styles, etc. is hypnotic. There are other tables at this Swap that have paintings, clothes, knick-knacks, linens, crocheted items, books, records and CDs and more jewelry.
It's not a huge Swap, but it's large enough and manageable for a nice Saturday afternoon. This Saturday there was a live blues band and some food stands too. It was such a beautiful, breezy day in Santa Monica, that it was enjoyable just to roam the aisles and watch all the people. Rhoda and I both ended up buying a few items at Terri's booth.
It was lunchtime and we wanted to try Baby Blues BBQ on Lincoln, just south of the Swap.
The food was delish. I had the BBQ'd brisket sandwich, Rho had the BBQ'd chicken sandwich, both piled high with yummy coleslaw on a grilled roll. We ordered mac 'n cheese and creamed spinach for our sides. The mac 'n cheese was especially faboo. In addition to cheddar and jack cheeses, it had bleu cheese too, for a tasty snap! All in all, it was a great afternoon!
Saturday, my friend Rhoda and I set out to score some vintage jewelry. We started out at an estate sale in Country Club Estates (near Pico and Van Ness). This is a really beautiful neighborhood, full of gorgeous old homes. The owners of this house, a lovely old craftsman style, were clearing out many decorator items, some jewelry, paintings and lots of furniture. Rhoda found a nice pair of 80's white and rhinestone earrings.

She looks familiar...did I go to grammar school with this girl?

Looks like this was a big spendy weekend for the both of us. Of course, I'm embarrased by the amount of $$ I spent, so I haven't even summoned up the nerve to post about it yet. Good thing I didn't make it to the Swap - that would have just sent me over the edge!
OOOOHhhh! I wish I were there and how much do I lurve that pillow cover!
I know this is late but, the lady in the painted picture looks just like the actress Halle Berry.
