Beer Can Hats.
Oy! How could this be possible? I never actually owned or crocheted one, I've only admired them from afar.....waaaay far.
In the L.A. Times today, there was an article about L.A. Fashion Week.
"Meghan Fabulous took a trip through Vacation Land, with ethnic tunic tops with dangling horn embellishments, slip dresses with glittering sea glass at the neckline, and hand-painted kimonos belted over shorts, all worn with touristy beer can bucket hats."
Touristy beer can bucket hats? Come on. When have you EVER seen a tourist wear a beer can hat? This is definitely a DOWN HOME style accessory, to be worn in one's own backyard or at a family gathering.

Looks like designer, Meghan Fabulous used fancy,
international beer cans for her hats!
So, of course I went on the internets to see if I could find a pattern for this divine creation. All of the patterns have been deleted! There were even threads in discussion rooms about how upset crocheters were that the patterns had been deleted! Maybe, if we look carefully, we can figure this one out! This might just be a great stash-buster for some quick holiday gifts! Yeah! Forget about those fancy Koigu socks and Noro Kureyon belts! All of my friends are getting beer can hats made with Super Yarn Mart acrylic yarn!!! Hey! They're soooo fashionable and au currant.

Hee hee. YOU don't need no stinkin' pattern!!! After your faux designer handbags, you can do this in your sleep or when completely blotto, which you would have to be to wear one.

Would you believe I've actually been on the lookout for the lowly beer can hat to make its comeback?! Yes, indeedy. It was soon after I saw the first of waaaay too many knit bikini patterns a year or so ago that I knew it was only a matter of time...And now that time has come. Hide the kids!

I had an alternate thought for today's heath-conscious public. How 'bout 'Slim-Fast' cans for the basis of these hats? Or that power drink, 'Red Bull'? The 'can-hat' could become the new t-shirt as far as personal statements are concerned!

Oh my, have we really run out of fashion ideas? Seriously, I'm from backwater PA and no one I know would be caught dead wearing one of those! (The baseball hat with the attached beer can holders and tubes for ingestion are another matter...)

Who says it's reserved for beer cans. How about green tea for the organic and health conscious crowd of the new millennium.

Oh, My.

Reserved for family gatherings? Not in my hometown. These were practically formal wear in Pennsyltucky.

The hats are cool, but I'm telling you, I'm making beer can chaps. I even recently purchased an awl to aid my effort.

Love the top hat, and yes I agree... beachy, organic, vegan, or juicey...there are many ways that this hat could be revamped, & recycled....just think of all the possibilities
