Celebrations
Yesterday was my Mom's 85th birthday! She is truly in amazing shape. She looks great, has a good attitude and a zest for life. We celebrated by having dinner last night at Cafe Bizou in Santa Monica. Thanks to my step-father, Hal for treating us.
Cafe Bizou is in the Water Garden office complex on Colorado near Cloverfield, SM. There are branches in Sherman Oaks and Pasadena. This is a very roomy, nicely appointed restaurant. The food is excellent and the service is good. I've eaten lunch there many times (since it's near my office), but had never had dinner there. Surprisingly, for a restaurant located in an office complex, it was quite busy.
We had a marvelous meal. Hal and Mom had the shortribs, Larry had the sea bass and I had bouillabaise. Everything was really tasty. We were all too stuffed to order dessert, but our waiter brought over a celebratory piece of vanilla cheesecake....divine. Happy B-Day, Mom!

This weekend we're going on a short road trip to Bakersfield. One of our good friends, Rich, is marrying Lisa. They are moving to Houston, so maybe that will be a trip in our future (hello Crochet Dude). I really like going to Bakersfield. There's still a small-town feel to the place. It's a casual, backyard wedding, so it should be fun.
Below is a photo of the scarf I wrote about yesterday. I'm calling it the Melted Melville. Here is the result after ironing flat and stretching it out. You can really see the stitches, it drapes beautifully, it's thin and gossamer gorgeous.

Have a marvelous weekend!

Happy Birthday, Mom Bloom! What a spring chicken! How about a modeled picture of the Melted Melville? Anything involving melting acrylic yarn... Love it.
Thanks for showing the before and after shots of the Melville scarf. I'm intrigued by the whole thing, esp. how it opened up the stitches so much. Cool.
Happy birthday wishes to your mom.
Have fun in Bakersfield!
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Which looks yummier - the scarf or the bass?!
Trick question - the answer is MOM!!! Happy b-day mom!
Gorgeous scarf! That yarn looks like $100! I always 'kill' my acrylic! Your mom looks great! I hope we look as well past 80.
Your Melville is most magnificent! Way to show yarn who's boss.
And I am agog that that women is 85. No. Way. Many more happy and healthy years!
Looks like Mom had a very nice (and yummy!)b-day.
Congrats, Rich and Lisa! Houston, hunh? We'll overlook that part.
The melted Melville colorway? Beautiful. I love it.
Happy birthday Mama!
And, yeehoo on coming to Houston someday!!
Best wishes to Mom on her day! It looks like a good time was had by all. My youngest daughter had her "bridesmaids lunch" at the Bizou in Pasadena--yummy! And the melted Melville? Well! nice work!
