Holiday Gifts?
stashed sock yarn
Oh yeah...it's August..the perfect time to begin thinking about your knitted and crocheted holiday gifts! Last year I made a ton o' wrist warmers for many of my friends and relatives. They were well-received.
This year I'm not sure what I will knit or crochet for everyone. I got really tired of making the same wrist warmer pattern over and over again last year. I may mix it up a bit this season...some hats, some scarves, etc. Above is some lovely sock yarn from my stash. Socks are always a welcome gift. Hmmmmm?
Have you thought about what you'll knit or crochet for holiday gifts yet? Let me know!

How about cowls? There are tons of free patterns on Ravelry; check out my queue for my faves (inc. Gloria, Tamarind, and the Celtic Cable Neckwarmer)/ideas. They'd be quick, they'd be varied, they'd be hip this season. I'm going to stash bust some of my sock yarn and my Malabrigo for mine...join in on the fun!
It's funny you brought up the subject - I was just thinking the other day that I should start on holiday knitting soon to avoid last-minute crunch!
My list is short and fairly personalized - I'm thinking about doing those multi-strand Speed Stix afghans for a couple and I'd like to try a few knitted amigurami patterns, then the recipient can use them as ornaments. But my mother (AKA my knitting guru) is always the biggest challenge. I'm still mulling that one over!
I'm not knitting as many holiday gifts this year, as one or two of last year's recipients weren't as appreciative of a handmade gift as I feel they ought to have been ;) I'll probably knit something (haven't decided what yet) for my Mum and my Mother in Law who are both knitters, so will show the correct amount of gratitude..lol!
For family the plan is socks, lots and lots of socks. Of course I have to learn how to make them first. :-) But, with the magical Cat Bordhi teaching me, I'm not too concerned.
The other two gifts on the rotation are also homemade but not fiber related. And I can't tell you what they are. Too many people read your blog and I don't want them to know what they're getting.
:-)
I don't like to give hand knitted gifts much, but I did see some cute crocheted water bottle carriers on ravlery recently. They might make nice simple gifts. Or how about funky potholders for those who like to cook?
