Quick Gift - Headband!
My co-worker, Jessica came to work last week with a photo of a headband she'd seen in the boutique at Portofino Tanning Salon in Beverly Hills. The headband was priced at $85!!!
I took this as a personal challenge! I could knit and crochet that headband in less than an evening for a fraction of the cost, including labor!!! It took me about 2 hours, total to knit the band, sew it together, crochet the flower and sew it with a button to the headband. The yarn was scrap acrylic, hangin' around the house.

I'm a major headband devotee. I've made many for myself over the years, usually with lots of crocheted flowers on top to match certain outfits. These headbands give me a colorful, Latin/Frida-esque look which I really like.
Mardi Gras Headband
Over the summer, we were on the Santa Monica Pier for a concert. I spied this granny-type headband made from sock yarn. I've been meaning to give this style a try too.
I'm thinking these little headbands would make great stocking stuffers for the goils! What are you knitting and/or crocheting for holiday gifts this year?

How funny, I JUST started something really similar to this LAST NIGHT!! There was a flower headband sold at Anthropologie earlier this year - similar to this design, that was worn on the MTV show "The City." Anywoo, I started one last night to keep my ears warm next week while I'm in Wisconsin. I guess great minds think alike.
$85...wow.
Ok - I know this looks simple but I would love a quick pattern if you have a chance. Have some great scrapes waiting for a pattern
Hi Darci,
Here's what I did: Size 7 needles, Vanna's Choice worsted weight yarn. Cast on 80 sts. Knit in a 2x2 rib for 6 rows. Knit 3 rows garter stitch. Switch back to 2x2 rib for 6 rows. Bind off. Sew ends together. Find a crocheted flower pattern online and crochet it. Sew the flower to the headband. Add button. Voila!
OMG, how cute and easy is that! Thank you for the pattern and the idea. Unfortunately I cannot crochet but if I decide to do this I am sure I can get some assistance.
Thanks for sharing!
BTW, went over to MTV for lunch today and the cafe is closed? Who knew, not me!
Too cute! I'm knitting cowels for Christmas gifts with alpaca yarn. Yummy! I hope the recipients will like and use them.
My wish list: de Frida Kahlo one. It's always been my favorite.
You never cease to amaze me with your resourcefulness and creativity. Thanks for sharing this wonderful easy project.
Outstanding. I love your knock-off, but I will always love the Frieda headband the best. It just suits you so well.
that is so cute, do you have a crochet pattern :)Id loooooooove to make one :)
Thanks Renee. No I don't have a crochet pattern for this headband. You'll just have to fool around with some sort of stretchy stitch for the band...maybe crochet in the back of stitches. I know you can crochet a flower!
Fabulous! Thank you so much for the pattern!
Ellen, I have short hair too but never thought of wearing a headband until I saw you. I love headbands and specially the ones you make with the flowers on top. You rock girl and now I wear headbands all the time. BTW, thanks for the cute pattern. I love it.

I love ALL of those but especially the Fridas . How wonderful. Also I trust a Noro granny headband will be appearing soon?
At $85 a pop you can make a fortune! If a headband goes for $85, I am thinking I undercharged way too much for a quilt!
Wow. Excellent job of coying the pricey version. It's perfect!
WOW.. just because it's priced at $85 doesn't mean its worth that and doesn't mean someone's gonna buy it.. but hey out there someone might!
hehehe
I might just have to make me one of those to keep my ears warm in the Ohio cold!
Awesome possum. I love it when you take up a challenge. It's so cute. I wonder if I can get away with one?
"If by getting away with it" means your hair is too short or you have a buzz, Yes, you can get away with it.
"if by getting away with it" means you don't know anyone, so cute and adorable, as you, who would love to wear it and maybe even be out of the ho hum of the community, while, that may be sad, it shouldn't stop you from being you. Wear it.
New fashion statements will shake up the status quo, but there is that certain someone, who has an inner giggle, who will be relieved that you, "got away with it".
This is great, my granddaughter has suddenly decided that she loves these, so this is another way for me to get rid of my scrap yarn
Please can you share how to make that flower, that completes the headband beautifully. Thank you so much for sharing such a lovely pattern <3
Here's a link to an easy crocheted flower on Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/easy-peasy-crochet-flowers
If you don't like that flower, do a search on Google for "easy crochet flower."
Good luck!
Thank you so much Ellen :D I am ready to cast off, do I cast off in pattern or as usual?
It's always best to cast off in pattern
Thank you so much for all your help doll. I now have the flower sewn on, I just need a button now haha
