A Garland of Stars
What to bring to a pre-Christmas party when you know your hosts like to decorate for the holiday? This year, I'm making Garlands of Stars in bright, cheery colors! The stars are quick to crochet. 
Easy Crocheted Star
Materials: Size "G" crochet hook, worsted weight acrylic yarn. The stiffer and crunchier the yarn, the better your star will look....think Red Heart Super Saver!
Round 1: Chain 6, join with slip stitch to first chain to form a ring.
Round 2: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), 2 double crochet stitches into ring, chain 5. *3 double crochet stitches into ring, chain five.* Repeat from *to* three times more, Slip stitch into third chain of beginning 3 chains. You should have five chain spaces.
Round 3: Chain 1, *single crochet in same stitch. Skip next stitch, single crochet in next stitch. 3 single crochet stitches in chain 5 space; chain up 2, single crochet back into third single crochet just made (this will produce a picot point for the star); single crochet 2 more stitches into chain 5 space.* Repeat from *to* three more times. Join to first single crochet with slip stitch. Fasten. Weave in end.
I pressed these little stars with a steam iron so they'll really stand out on a pine tree! Then, I crocheted a chain with red yarn, attaching the tips of each star as I chained. There are 12 chains between each star tip. I left about 12 inches of chained red yarn at each end for tying to a doorway or onto the tree.

Ellen, thanks for posting the pattern for your stars...I might even be able to make those! Now if only I can find a hook!
Recently I read that dipping in Sprite or other colorless soda stiffens nicely.

wow those are really cute. I imagine doing them in a sparkly white yarn would be pretty too.
I tried the knitted bells last year in worsted acrylic- they ended up looking like tube socks- especially with that white striped band I knitted at the bottom bell edge!
Okay, you've done it. When I finish my last holiday spider, I will attempt to CROCHET a star. Those are just too wicked cute to pass up.

HOW DID I MISS THESE? Glad I saw them on Ravelry today. Wonderful, these are perfectto bring to a party this time of year. Although I'd be tempted to wear them.
I love these stars! I made mine with Christmas yarns...red with silver, green with silver, white with silver, and red, green, and white variegated. I made 4 of each and then used all 4 yarns to make my garland. I tied my stars on individually. They turned out great. I'm giving to my daughter for her tree. With 4 little ones, she needs non-breakable decorations like this one. Thanks a bunch for sharing this pattern!

These are lovely, but as a beginner crochet-er I'm having a little trouble following Round 3 ... I think it needs to be repeated 4 times (not just 3) and the leading * to show what to repeat seems to be missing. :)

MEANS
Ch 2, sc in stitch below first chain stitch to create a picot point.

You lost me at round 3.. could you explain it more carefully? thanks
If you use a smaller crochet hook, guess it would accommodate a small Christmas tree. Looking for a small star for a table top crocheted Christmas tree.

Sure, use a smaller hook for a tighter/smaller star. You could also use sport weight yarn or crochet cotton, along with a small hook for an even SMALLER star!
