Catching Up
Mingei Museum @ Balboa Park, San Diego
Phew! My holiday vacation was a whirlwind. There were parties, field trips, shopping trips and more. Here's what happened during the last few days:
Last Wednesday, Larry and I drove to Balboa Park in San Diego to see the last few days of the Ackerman exhibit at the Mingei Museum. It was spectacular. I loved every bit of it. The artwork, wall-hangings, mosaics, pottery...all were sublime. It was also fun to see the huge Spreckels Organ Pavilion!

We had a nice little lunch at Mama Testa Taqueria in San Diego before heading back to Los Angeles on that cold and rainy day.
On New Year's Day, our friends Lori and Rick had a great party at their home. It was a potluck, but Lori and Rick prepared tons of food too. They have a newly remodeled kitchen and everything worked beautifully for a crowd of people. Here's a little slide show with more photos of the party.

Yesterday I attended the most fun party of all! My Knitster Grrrlz got together at Mary Jo's house in Pasadena for our annual gift exchange. We enjoyed 80 degree California sunshine on Mary Jo's new backyard deck. My gifts of sock-yarn shawls were well-received.

I got all kinds of wonderful gifts from the Grrrlz too. The very BEST part of this get-together was that CARLA surprised us by showing up....all the way from Houston!! She wasn't at our get-together last Christmas, although she did make it to town for my birthday last year.
It was soooo great to see Carla. She's so sneaky. None of us knew that she was coming to town. We even called her during our little party to say Happy New Year and put her on speaker-phone. She didn't let on that she'd be in Mary Jo's backyard in about an hour. She'll be here until NEXT Tuesday, so be sure to come by the WeHo SnB at the Original Farmers Market on Thursday night so you can say hello!!!
OMG! Carla's here!!!

Sounds absolutely lovely (except the driving to and back from SD in the same day!!) Happy New Year!!
That Carla is so sneaky. Yesterday was the best day ever with the gang all together! Good fun, food and friends under blue skies. Perfect.
I'll never get you guys like that again! It was sooo much fun. I'm so happy I'm in these pictures, lol!
I love you guys and was missing you so much. :)
Oh, and Natalie and are are wearing our shawls today!
Ellen you look so pretty in your animal print collar coat in San Diego. I love that picture of you. Looks like all had a good time.
Happy new year! The shawl lineup is wonderful- so fun to see them on your knitting friends.
You are one busy lady! Looks like you had loads of fun over the holidays with all your friends!
California Dreaming on such a winter's day. It got to 17 f* degrees here in Atlanta last night and the night before. It has not gotten above 32 degrees for 3 days. Your lovely pictures of the buildings in San Diego made me cry (well almost). I used to live less than 2 miles from Balboa Park. Thanks for sharing.
