Watching the political conventions on television has been very exciting. There have been many highs and lows for the Republicans and the Democrats. Here's an interesting comparison of the two parties' conventions.
In 1960, our brand new Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena hosted the first few days of the Democratic National Convention. Nominee, John F. Kennedy spoke on the last day of the convention at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, across the street from the new Sports Arena.

I used to attend USC Basketball games at the Sports Arena. I do love the simplicity and strength of this design!

The Sports Arena was designed by architect Welton Becket's firm. Ironically, the opening was hosted by then Vice-President and California native, Richard Nixon in 1959.

It has been home to many basketball and hockey teams over the years, as well as a venue for concerts, boxing matches and more. It was recently retro-fitted and updated so that it is still a vital part of the Los Angeles scene.
