La Quinta Trip
Thanks again to Jacquie and Bob for hosting us at their beautiful La Quinta hideaway for a few days. We arrived Thursday late afternoon and were treated to a faboo barbecue. Yummmmm...steak. The next morning we drove into Palm Springs to visit the Art Museum. Sadly, the Russell Wright exhibit had been dismantled early so they could install new flooring!!! Argh! That made me and about 20 other museum goers upset. Oh well....we viewed some of the marvelous 20th century art in this gem of a museum. The life-like sculptures sitting on a bench in front of a Robert Motherwell painting were the highlight. Of course, the gift shop rocks.
Later, we cooled off at the Mall with lunch and a movie. Then, a side-trip to the Michael's in Rancho Mirage. I must say, this is the best stocked Michael's I have ever seen. I always stop here when I'm in the Desert. I suppose, it's so hot, that no one knits or crochets, but they still stock an amazing amount of yarn. Jacquie and I had a field day. She purchased some Lionbrand Cotton Ease in a beautiful taupe color for a knitted shell. I purchased a few skeins of Patons SWS in the Natural Geranium colorway for a little toddler sweater.
Later that night, we had dinner at La Casita in Indio. The restaurant is upstairs in this building that looks like a castle! There are suits of knight armour on the roof and in the lobby! Downstairs is a hamburger place and video game arcade. What a combination!
On Saturday, as we waved a fond farewell to our hosts with the most...Jacquie and Bob, we drove into Palm Springs for a little more sight-seeing, then had lunch at a great deli, across from the Palm Springs Spa, called Sherman's. Everything was delicious and just as good as any deli in L.A.
Next post....all about mid-century modernism in Palm Springs!
