Krall @ The Bowl
Los Angeles Philharmonic OrchestraWe had a marvelous time on Friday at the Hollywood Bowl. Audrey and Jeff invited us to share their box to see the LA Philharmonic Orchestra, The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and Diana Krall. Luckily, Audrey had a platinum valet parking pass, so we zoomed right up to the artist's exit and found our seats quickly. What a pleasure! Parking at the Bowl can be a pain. We usually take the Park & Ride Bowl Bus, but this was waaaaaay better!
Super Martini ManI made salads for dinner, stacked in individual plastic containers for each person: Green salad with sesame dressing and vegies; mixed fruit salad; cold soba noodles with diced chicken, vegies and a ginger dressing. Audrey brought beverages and the most divine dessert from Susina Bakery: Mini-cookies and little individual tarts. Jeff brought his faboo martini concoction!

Divine Mini-Cookies from Susina BakeryThe night was balmy, Diana Krall sounded great, as did her accompaniment. We saw a few movie stars on the way out, making their way backstage to congratulate Krall: Diahann Carroll; Dustin Hoffman, Sacha Baron-Cohen. These people weren't together, but they descended on the stage door at the same time. I sometimes wonder if all movies stars in Hollywood know each other? I suppose not. It's like when people ask me, "Oh, you live in Los Angeles! Do you know so & so?" Yeah, right. It's a big town.

Strange combinations of famous people know each other and hang out together. I'm always intriqued to find that out. If those three weren't a group before, they probably went out for coffee afterward.
Um, is that *yarn* you used to tie those containers?
I really wanted to go to Diana Krall concert, but we had gone week before to the Sgt. Pepper's 40th, which was great, but OH MAN THE BUS RIDE!!!!!!!!!
Our bus driver stopped at one point on the way back to the zoo parking lot to throw up along the dark road leading up to Forest Lawn. At 11:00 at night, pitch dark! The platinum pass sounds a lot better.
We need some recovery time before attempting the Bowl again.

Sounds like you had a ball at the Bowl. A friend and I got to see Diana here in CT last month and she put on a lovely show. It was not an outdoorsy setting like the Bowl, so no picnicking. But what a treat to hear her in top form, performing numbers like "Little Girl Blue," "If I Had You" and "S'wonderful." She is such a magnetic performer, and her sense of humor was also in peak form.
