Granny-a-go-go
I can't stop crocheting these "join as you go" granny squares. Thanks to Attic24 I learned how to accomplish this. It's so nice not to have to weave in ends and spend tons of time joining squares. Of course, you have to decide right then and there which colors to put next to which. You can't just lay out the squares, move them around and decide. Well, that's OK.
For this "cool tones" granny bag, I used various shades of blues, greens, some yellows and white for contrast. Vanna's Choice acrylic yarns are used throughout with a smidge of Red Heart acrylic. I REALLLLLY like Vanna's yarns. They are squishy, soft but have body, show stitch definition beautifully and come in fantastic colors!I covered a canvas mini-tote purchased at Michael's for this bag. Eventually, I'll cover the handles with matching yarn.I'm already working on another bag, incorporating little grannies with black borders, rust for the middle color and different light shades for the center "flower."
Can't stop thinkin' 'bout those grannies...lala lalalalala...

How adorable, colorful and inspired!!
Love the smiley closure!
I am getting ready to start my own set of join as you go squares in "Hook 'em Horns" colors!
I also love Attic24 (because of your hexie referral, thanks!) All of her bright and beautiful colors are always cheerful!
Thanks for sharing!!
This bag is just darling, Ellen. I don't think you need to cover the handles. Black looks OK. You know, they do have various colors of these canvas bags at Michael's. Next time get one with colorful handles. I can't wait to see your next bag!

Love the bag, Sweetie! And because of reading your blog today I went over to visit Attic24. Such a colorful, fun blog - I bookmarked her along with the rest of my daily favorites (yours included).

I love Vanna's yarns, too. They're so soft and warm. I've actually crocheted a "February Lady's Sweater" (my own concoction) out of Vanna's Choice Esspresso and I just love it! Great yarn!
OH, I *LOVE* the colors!!! How is it you *always* pull all those colors together so well?! (when I try to have more than one color it looks like babybarf.) The bag is gorgeous, made me smile, and then I saw the button. You crack me up. Another rockin' success!!
Ellen, you're a crocheting wonder! The bag is just fab!

I have a nice collection of buttons from my grandmother, and of those which I have saved myself over the years; but every once in a while, I'll still find myself running through the stores, looking for that ONE perfect button for this or that ONE certain project. I got a kick out of seeing the smiley face button this morning! It's the perfect touch! Really CUTE!!
Ellen, You have Granny Square Madness! And I am loving it! Another super cute bag.
Yay for grannies! The people kind AND the crochet kind. The smiley face button is too perfect.
I'm getting ready to swatch for Babette; soon I'll be grannying along with ya. *flails* So excited about our CAL.
Thanks for that link. I edge closer to doing something crochet every day (thanks to you). Nice smiley face closure on this one!
Love the smiley button, love the colors, love that you are covering an existing bag. I guess you can tell I just love, love, love it. You are sooooo creative. Don't you just love Attic 24 and all the color. I guess I'm just lovey today. Lulu in MD.
