Warehouse Store

Miles of Chinese Chicken Salad Kits
Larry and I do not belong to any warehouse, membership, big-box stores. You can buy items in bulk at these stores, supposedly to save money. We just don't have the space in our house to store large amounts of goods. Some of my friends have taken out their calculators and figured out, item by item, if they've actually saved money at these bulk stores. Most of the time, they have not saved much.
Hal and Roz, Havin' Fun!Well, shopping at Costco is one of my Mom's most favorite activities. She loves their food section. Granted, they do have some nice looking hunks o' meat and deals on canned and frozen food. Mom likes the prepared food. For me, most of the prepared food tastes like it's from my grammar school cafeteria...bleah. She's also crazy about the bakery items. Double bleah. I can taste the preservatives.

Awhile back we accompanied Mom and Hal on their Sunday trip to Costco, in hopes of scoring some nice new bed linen. We found a lovely set of sheets and Larry found his fave athletic socks, after fighting our way through the Sunday crowds.

I only buy items with shelf-life at these types of store. I believe I'll wait awhile until my next visit.

I so agree with the lack of space or not really wanting to give up the yarn space for the 12 pack of paper towels. My mother is the proud owner of 3000 paper wrapped straws. Good to know what I will be inheriting.
OMG!! Why do they go on Sunday?? Oh, I know....for the food samples!! I find I buy things I don't need when I go to Costco. As a single person I rarely get out of there for under $100. I did buy 2 really cute tops there earlier in the summer. I get compliments on them all the time and proudly say I bought them at Costco!!
BTW, it is so cute how Hal wears a baseball cap. My Dad used to wear one too!
I definitely agree about the prepared foods -- bleah. In fact, some years back, my co-workers and I did a taste comparison of Costco bulk Oreos vs. grocery store Oreos, and the Costco ones were just oddly different. Also, I bought some large packages of Halloween candy there one year, and they were stale, and it's difficult to get stale candy!
I do admit, I like the large packages of toilet tissue and Kleenex.
The one thing I like about Costco is that one in Long Beach was selling gift cards for the cross-channel carriers at a discount price. Which one could then turn around and use towards the purchase of one's resident commuter book - definite savings there and quite a deal.
If you're still in the market for sheets, the biggest bang for your buck is Bed Bath & Beyond. Their 1000 thread count sheets are the nicest & most cost effective out there. And, you can use their 20% off coupons on them!
As for Costco, we usually buy eggs, dog bones, spinach and gas...random assortment of items but Costco sells them cheaper than anyone.
All those bulky items, I also have not storage space. I do go there for printer ink, household electronics, bought my flat screen there (lowest price I could find). But that's about it. My food mostly comes from Trader Joe's or Henry's. I'm going for breakfast at the Farmer's Market this Saturday. I love their food.
We call it the Consumption Store and we have to walk down all the aisles and fill the basket with the most idiotic stuff, except for the toilet paper and paper towels. You can buy them in bulk and store them in the garage because the units are individually wrapped. I also like the bulk kitchen trash bags.
Recently I bought flashlights and a Casio keyboard for my nephew. Oh and sponges. When the sponge even remotely starts to smell I throw it away and need a new one.
Wow, you are way braver than I am! I would never go to Costco (I send the Jman), particularly on a sunday!! We go for the TP, paper towels and pre-packaged frozen veggies. Do NOT (I repeat: DO NOT) purchase "fresh" meat there. I know things... Things I wish I never knew.
Wow! you grands rock it! you still shop even at that age. i admire you.
