Breaking the Fast
Last Saturday was Yom Kippur. This is the holiest of high holy days EVER in the Jewish religion. You are supposed to fast and reflect on your life, atone for your sins and pledge to do better in the coming year.
My maternal grandfather was very religious. He always celebrated his birthday at the end of Yom Kippur, no matter what the date was. The dinner to break the fast was also Grandpa Sam's birthday party. We have always celebrated this day together. Our family has dwindled over the years, but we still convene to break the fast at the end of Yom Kippur.

My Auntie Mae is a member of Hillcrest Country Club and, for the past few years, has invited us to dinner at the Club. There were only eleven of us at the table this year, but we had a wonderful time. The buffet at Hillcrest is legendary. There are so many choices....salads, smoked fish, roast beef, brisket, chicken, fish, vegetables, latkes, blintzes and more! The desert table groans with sumptuous sweets! Oy!

Always a TON to eat there. I had my Sweet 16 party at Hillcrest all those many many years ago. We had chicken salad served in carved out pineapples and they cut a piece of pineapple in the shape of a chicken's head! I do think the food (or at least the desserts) were better way back when....I LOVED the coconut cake. Glad you had a nice time with your family. That is the important part. As always thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous family. HI MARILYN!!!!
