Scour Flower

Ellen's "Scour Flower"

I had a bit of time on my working vacation this past week to create a scrubbie pattern.  I call it "Scour Flower."  The center of the scrubbie is crocheted with nylon netting.  The flower petals are crocheted with kitchen cotton.  Here are the instructions:

Materials

Nylon netting *
Kitchen Cotton
 Size “G” crochet hook

*NOTE:  I purchased a roll of nylon netting in the wedding section of my local craft store.  The size of the roll was 6 inches x 25 yards.  A 6-inch wide piece of netting is too wide for this pattern, so I cut the roll in half using a table saw.  This produced two rolls of 3-inch wide netting.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Round 1:  With nylon netting chain 6, join to form loop.

Round 2:  Chain 3 (this is your first dc). Dc 2 into center ring.  Make a popcorn (see below).  *Ch 2.  Make another popcorn.*  Repeat from * to *  around until you have 6 popcorns and 6 ch 2 spaces.  Join.

How to make a popcorn:
·  Work 3 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch.
·  Drop the loop from your hook.
·  Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
·  Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

Round 3:   Move into nearest ch 2 space, chain 3, then dc 2 in same space.  Ch 2.  Dc *3 into next ch 2 space.  Ch 2*.  Repeat * to * until you have 6 groups of 3 dc stitches in each space.  Join and fasten off netting.

Round 4:  With kitchen cotton *sc 2 stitches in any chain 2 space.  Sc 1 in next dc.  Sc 2 in center dc of three.  Sc 1 in last dc of 3*.  Repeat from * to * around until you have 36 sc stitches around the motif.  Join.

Round 5:  *Ch 3.  Skip 3 stitches.  Sc I in next (or 4th) stitch.*    Repeat from * to * until you have 9 loops around.  Join.

Round 6:  Slip stitch into first loop available.  *Sc 1, hdc 1, dc 1, trbl c 2, dc 1, hdc 1, sc 1* into this loop.  This creates a flower petal.  Repet from * to * until you have 9 fower petals.  Join.  Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

The Scour Flower makes a nice hostess gift!
