Andre's at Town & Country

On Saturday night, Larry and I planned to attend a band performance at the Original Farmers Market, 3rd and Fairfax, L.A.  We spend a lot of time at the F. Mkt.  There are many restaurants and food stands there.  I've eaten at ALL of them.  Some are good, some are less than good.  You could say that I'm a bit bored with the food at the Market.  I remembered that we'd been to Andre's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria across the street, many years ago.  We decided to go to Andre's for dinner on Saturday, before the gig.

Andre's has been at the Town & Country Shopping Center since 1963.  The founder, Chef Andreone owned a similar establishment in Westchester and also the waaaaay fancier Andre's of Beverly Hills on Wilshire Boulevard, between Robertson and La Cienega.  I do remember going to the place in Beverly Hills once when I was a child.  The Andre's at 3rd and Fairfax is the only remaining Andre's Restaurant.  The menu offers home-style Italian food, served cafeteria style at low prices.  There's always a line to get inside.  The prices are extremely reasonable.

The food portions are huge and can be easily shared.  I ordered the special for Saturday, Chicken Parmesean with spaghetti and meat sauce.  Larry ordered the roast chicken with spaghetti.  We split flan for dessert. We should have had a scoop of their freshly home made gelato or ice cream instead of the flan!  I noticed couples at other tables splitting one meal, then ordering salad and vegies and splitting those too.  Excellent idea.  We will do that next time.  Andre's is known for their spaghetti sauce and salad dressing.  You can get everything to-go or eat there.

The Gelato and Ice Cream look yummy!

The dining room has been remodeled over the years...nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable.  You can also dine on the patio, just outside the restaurant.  One of my many mottos:  "You cannot eat atmosphere."  We will return to Andre's, especially on eggplant night!
