International Crochet Day
While reading a few crochet blogs online, I found out that tomorrow, Friday, September 12, 2008 is International Crochet Day! This also coincides with the Fall Knit and Crochet Show in Portland this weekend, sponsored by the TKGA and the CGOA.
Suggestions for activities this day: Crochet in public; teach someone how to crochet; crochet an item to donate to charity; check-out a crochet book from the library; comment on a crochet blog. Almost EVERYDAY is Crochet Day for me. I'm always trying to further this art by showing my friends how to manage those tricky stitches, crocheting in public and crocheting for charity. I am my happiest when I'm crocheting.
I remember seven years ago on that fateful and awful day, September 11, 2001. Immediately after the attacks, the internet was abuzz. Crocheters and Knitters around the world came together to make things to comfort the many people directly hurt by the attacks. It would be nice to take a minute or two today and think about how we can all help someone.

Thanks for the heartfelt post today, Ellen. I will try to crochet something for charity this weekend.

Happy ICD to you!
The day dovetails nicely with the afghan I'm making for Tom's Mom. She's in a health care facility now, and nearly bed bound. I want to make her a snuggly throw she can use in her wheelchair and in bed. I'm even using ack!rylic for it. Aren't you proud of me? (Encore Chunky)
P.S. OMG, you included that scary mask. *guffaw*
I'll be crocheting with a group of seniors over the weekend. We're making baby hats to donate to Stitches From The Heart!
