Brave Combo!
One of our fave bands EVER performed at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica on Saturday night. Brave Combo has been going strong for over 30 years. The band is from Denton, Texas. They travel all over the U.S. and Europe, but seldom make it out to the West Coast. We hadn't seen them perform since 2007, so when I found out they were playing at McCabe's, I ran out and bought tickets. You could say this is a band with an eclectic repertoire. You could call them a rock 'n roll polka band, but they're so much more. We like to call the band, Brave Combination, because they've mastered so many musical styles, brilliantly! Click around on their website for examples.
McCabe's is rather a sedate arena for a dance band like BC. Concerts are held in the back room. The walls are covered with instruments and the rafters are storage for instrument cases and more. It's almost like attending a concert in a warehouse. Seats are set up. There is no dance floor. The sound is excellent. The stage is raised high so you can see from every seat in the house. Bonus: We always run into friends and celebrities at McCabe's!

Well, after a few songs, the audience could not contain itself. Many people got up to polka in the aisles! It was wild.
Here's a photo from the photographer at McCabe's on Saturday night of everyone going crazy and doing the "Hokey Pokey," metal style. Click here to watch a great video of "Hokey Pokey" by Brave Combo!
