Echo Park

Echo Park Lake without Lotus Blossoms
Echo Park Lake is almost lotus-less! This weekend is the Lotus Festival, which usually coincides with the blooming of hundred of lotuses on the Lake. I drove by last week and there were only a few blossoms! Oh no! How can they have a Lotus Festival without the lotus blossoms?

This is a wonderful festival...it lasts all weekend. There are boat races, singing contests, food and gift vendors, and a general display of unique Asian and Pacific Islander culture and traditions.

Also, the boathouse on the Lake was recently closed and re-opened. It seems that the City is poorly funded for this venture, so they will probably discontinue the rental of paddle boats at the end of the summer.

Get over to Echo Park Lake! Ride a paddle boat, have some yummy malagkit.

Hi Ellen - I heard on the radio that Garcetti got some park $$$ to keep the boats available on the weekends. I hope that they keep them running because we have not made it over there to take a ride yet! Thanks for the great pics!!
